Today I received a pretty unfriendly cease and desist email to remove many of the items in my portfolio.
I won't lie: it stings. I worked nights and weekends. Missed family events and vacations. Worked countless 90+ hour weeks, and all-nighters. Commuted an average of three hours per day. Bottom line? I'm no martyr - you paid me well and on time, while providing great opportunities. Hell, we played blackjack together in Vegas for almost 12 hours straight. It stings because I was passionate and proud of the work we did together.
After receiving a coldly worded letter from your lawyer, after cleverly email asking for my new mailing address for "the important tax documents," it would be all too easy to write a scathing, bridge-burning, secret-spilling letter in return. But instead, I'm going to let all that negativity go. Because in the time since we hugged and said goodbye as friends, I've done the best work of my life. And no letter from your lawyer can take that away from me.
If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them.
